My wife picked me up from the office today and later on brought me back to my car. As I’m getting out of the van we hear some sort of noise. Sounded like someone/something in the dumpster. So I grab my trusty Maglite from the car and proceed to investigate. I peek into the dumpster and see a racoon. Hanging onto the dumpster lid (which a corner of it falls into the dumpster)
trying to climb out, but can’t because there’s not enough trash to reach the top. So it was jumping onto the lid and trying to climb up onto it to get out, but couldn’t
pull himself up out of the dumpster.
Of course, I can’t let it sit there and die… No way it’s gonna get itself out. So I run into the office and find a large enough box I can put in there to give it sort of a ladder/ramp to climb up and over to get out. Success!
The weird thing was, it never was scared of me. Never showed any fear. He was definitely exhausted and must have been in there for a long time. Even after shining the flashlight at it, it was more interested in getting out than anything else. When I put the box in, it was in the way, so I figured the box would scare it into moving… Nope he immedi
ately started trying to climb out using it, not giving a second thought to the scary human at the other end of the box. After realizing the spot I wanted to lay the box wasn’t going to work I just laid it against the outside of the dumpster and let him do his thing. He got to the top of the dumpster, jumped down and ran off.
